What Knoi provides

Knoi offers a free personality assessment and a report based on your answers. The assessment is twelve short sets of questions. After the first set comes one short screen where you place yourself. Four cards you pick from are spread through the sets. Near the end is one thing you write in your own words. It is free to take and free to read, with nothing to buy at the end. Sessions started before September 14, 2026 also had short stories and pick-one cards in them. Those sessions finish the way they began. From September 22, 2026 every new session had one card in it, which asked how you like to be shown care, and two short screens before the questions where you placed yourself. Those sessions also finish the way they began. Since September 30, 2026 every new session has four cards. They ask how you get your energy back, about a free Saturday, about a good work day, and how you like to be shown care.

At 100 questions, sixty are picked from your own answers. We keep a list of which questions we chose for you, and in what order. It stays with the rest of your session.

Before the first question it asks how old you are, and it is for people aged 16 and over. The Age section below says what that means, and the privacy policy says what your age is used for.

The assessment comes in more than one length. Every one of the scale questions is scored, at every length. The four cards are not scored. We do not make you guess: the page you start on states the number before you answer anything.

Examples shown on the home page — sample statements, comparison layouts and game cards — are illustrative previews and are labelled as such. Your own report is a real output, calculated from your own answers.

What your report is

Your report describes how you answered these questions today. It is a description of how you see and describe yourself, which is a real and useful thing, and it is not a measurement of who you objectively are.

The questions come from the International Personality Item Pool, a public-domain set of personality items used in research. The scoring uses statistical parameters estimated from a large public dataset of responses. Your report says which dataset and how many people.

Every result carries a range rather than a single number, because the range is honest and a single number is not. Where two parts of your result are too close for the questions to tell apart, we say so instead of putting them in an order.

Accuracy, and its limits

We try to be as accurate as we can, and nothing in a report is guaranteed. Any description can be wrong about a particular person. If something does not fit, it may be wrong — you can say so on each finding, and that is genuinely how we find our mistakes.

Your report compares you with the 307,313 people who answered these same questions online, in a public research sample. It says so on the page. That group is not everyone: it skews young and English-speaking. We do not give you a rank in it.

Age

The minimum age for Knoi is 16. It asks how old you are before the first question, as a plain number of years. Your age is required, and the assessment will not begin without it.

Why 16. Not because younger people were left out of the numbers — they were not. The answers these questions were scored from came from people of every age, 1,187 of them aged 10 to 12. The reason is that the questions work less well the younger the reader is, and that was measured: how closely a fresh fit inside an age group agrees with the numbers Knoi scores with runs 0.994 at 18 to 24 and 0.979 at 16 or 17, against the 0.981 this set of questions had to reach to be used at all — then falls to 0.941 at 13 to 15 and 0.661 at 10 to 12. So a younger person's report would sound exactly as confident and mean less than it sounded, with nothing in it to give that away. Drawing the line at 16 also keeps children's information out of the product: below 16 nothing is collected at all. That is a statement about how this product behaves, not legal advice and not a claim about any particular law. The privacy policy sets the measurement out in full.

If the age given is under 16, no session is created and nothing is stored — not the answers, because there are none yet, and not the number itself. The check runs on our server rather than only in the page, so it holds however the assessment is reached. The privacy policy says what your age is used for once you are in, how long it is kept, and what removes it.

Do not give somebody else's age, or an age that is not yours, to get past this.

Not professional advice

Knoi is for self-reflection and conversation. It is not medical or psychological diagnosis, not therapy, not crisis support, not career counselling, and not legal or financial advice.

It is not a health assessment, does not ask health questions, and cannot tell you anything about a mental-health condition. If you are struggling, please talk to a doctor or a qualified professional rather than a website.

Do not use Knoi to make decisions about hiring, firing, admissions, or anything else that affects another person's opportunities. It has not been validated for those uses and we do not support them.

No relationship verdicts

Comparison tools, when they exist, are for discussion. They will not tell anyone whether to date, marry, separate, live together, or make another significant life decision. Research does not support that kind of prediction, and we will not pretend otherwise.

Your code

Your report code is the only key to your report. Anyone who has it can open your report, so treat it like a password. If you lose it and have not added an email address, we cannot recover it, because we hold nothing else that identifies you.

You may delete your report, every answer behind it and the age you gave, at any time, from the erase page at knoi.me/report.html#forget. It asks for your code and then deletes permanently. There is no delete button on the report itself, on purpose; the page linked here is the way, and it is always available. The privacy policy says what deleting removes, and what happens to an assessment you never finished. When you delete your report, the list of which questions we chose for you goes too.

Using the website fairly

Please do not submit automated or deliberately random responses, attempt to guess other people's report codes, interfere with the website, try to reach nonpublic systems or records, or submit another person's email address without permission.

Responses that appear to have been submitted automatically may be removed. We may limit request rates to keep the service available.

Availability and changes

This is an early-stage product. Features may change as research, testing and feedback develop, and we may improve how answers are scored — which can change a report. Where that happens, your original answers are kept so a report can be recalculated rather than lost. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability.
